Former President Obama on gene editing, ag tech

Former President Obama: “I try to let the science determine my attitude about new technology and food production.  It’s OK for us to be cautious about how we approach these new technologies and genetic modifications, but we can’t be closed off to it. I don’t think we can be closed minded to it. The truth is that humanity has always engaged in genetic modifications.

“The GMO debate that took place in the US, as well as in Europe, I worry a little bit that somehow the conversation has gotten cut off, as opposed to let’s see what the facts are. But again, you see where the distrust comes in.”
