About 1,000 scientists, students and science supporters joined three March for Science events in the Kenyan cities of Nairobi, Kirinyaga and Kakamega.

Participants called for polices that prioritize and fast-track funding and support for science. Biotechnology students and advocates urged the government to proceed with National Performance Trials on drought-tolerant and insect-resistant genetically modified maize crops that could help address the country s pressing needs.

The events also emphasized the role that science plays in everyday life, and its importance to Kenya as an agricultural nation.

The Kenya marches were organized by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation, in partnership with the Empowerment and Education for Development, African Biotechnology Stakeholders Forum, Rural Outreach Program, Cornell Alliance for Science and other partners.
