Rumbidzai Pamela Magwiro
Rumbidzai Pamela Magwiro is a research technician at ALERT who holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Zimbabwe. She plans to start a master’s program in 2019.
Rumbidzai has worked with rural communities to address conflicts between humans and wildlife. That experience taught her that poverty and hunger are the main drivers of conflict in communities. She believes that in order to solve the various problems people have in conservation, it is necessary to find the means to feed the people and that can be achieved through science and agricultural biotechnology.
She believes that agricultural biotechnology can ensure that there is food on the table and that if you give rural communities enough to eat, they will not poach wildlife. She hopes her participation in the GLFP will equip her with the skills necessary to bring a positive change to the lives of people in her communities.
