Mwimali Murenga

Murenga is a maize breeder and coordinator at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO). He is also the country coordinator for the Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) Kenya Project, where he is responsible for the development of drought- and stress-tolerant and stem borer-resistant GM maize. He has managed donor relations working with AATF, CIMMYT, AGRA, USAID Feed the Future, and World Bank projects in KALRO, as well as seed companies. Murenga is an Alliance for Science Global Leadership Fellow who holds a doctorate in plant breeding and a master’s in plant breeding and genetics with a focus on insect-protected Bt maize.
