Modesta Nnedinso Abugu

Modesta is a Master’s candidate in horticultural science at the University of Florida. She previously served as the program assistant of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB), Nigeria Chapter, where she developed content and managed the website and social media pages. She is a 2015 Alliance for Science Global Leadership Fellow and co-facilitates Alliance for Science courses on strategic communications, grassroots organizing, and volunteerism. Since 2013, Modesta has assisted in planning and executing over 150 awareness and advocacy programs on agricultural biotechnology, engaging the media, scientists, and farmers alike, and was part of the team that championed the Nigerian Biosafety Bill into law in 2015. As a member of Young Professionals in Agricultural Research and Development (YPARD), she has published several articles and blogs on the potential of innovative technologies in agriculture and has encouraged many youths to do the same. Modesta is passionate about youth and women empowerment. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Nigeria, and holds a Master of Science in plant science and biotechnology.
